\textit{M. Micallef} and \textit{M. Y. Wang} showed that a four-dimensional Einstein manifold with non negative isotropic curvature is locally symmetric [Duke Math. J. 72, No.3, 649--672 (1993; Zbl 0804.53058)]. In the present paper, the author extends result to higher dimensions. More precisely, the following theorem is given: Let \((M,g)\) be a compact Einstein manifold of dimension \(n\geq 4\). If \((M,g)\) has positive isotropic curvature, \((M,g)\) has constant sectional curvature. Moreover, if \((M,g)\) has non negative isotropic curvature, then \((M,g)\) is locally symmetric.
