This paper is a continuation of [the authors, J. Symplectic Geom. 8, No. 2, 205--223 (2010; Zbl 1201.53082)] in which the authors introduced the notion of symplectic microfolds and symplectic micromorphisms between them. In the present paper, they adapt the notion of generating functions for Lagrangian submanifolds to symplectic microgeometry. They show that a symplectic micromorphism always admits a global generating function. As an application, they describe Hamiltonian flows as special symplectic micromorphisms whose local generating functions are the solutions of Hamilton-Jacobi equations. They obtain a purely categorical formulation of the temporal evolution in classical mechanics.
