For a compact spin manifold \(M\) isometrically embedded in Euclidean space, the author derives the extrinsic estimates of the eigenvalues of the square of the Dirac operator from above and below. These depend on the second fundamental form of the embedding, and bounds on the ratios of the eigenvalues. Since the unit sphere and projective space also admit standard embeddings in Euclidean spaces the corresponding results hold for their compact spin submanifolds. Contents include: Introduction; Preliminaries; Submanifolds in \(\mathbb R^N\), Submanifolds in unit spheres and projective spaces; and References (twenty-one items).
