Let \(X\) be a normed linear space with the dual space \(X^*\). For a nonempty subset \(W\) of \(X\) and a nonempty bounded set \(S\) in \(X\), define \[ d(S,W)= \underset{w\in W}{}{\text{inf}}\,\sup_{s\in S}\| s- w\|\text{ and }P_W(S)= \Biggl\{w\in W:\sup_{s\in S}\| s- w\|= d(S,W)\Biggr\}. \] Each element in \(P_W(S)\) (if \(P_W(s)\neq\emptyset\)) is called a best simultaneous approximation to \(S\) from \(W\). The set \(W\) is called (1) a sun if, for each \(w_0\in W\) and \(x\in X\), \(w_0\in P_W(x)\) implies that \(w_0\in P_W[w_0+ \lambda(x-w_0)]\) for all \(\lambda> 0\), (2) a simultaneous sun if, for each \(w_0\in W\) and each bounded set \(S\) in \(X\), \(w_0\in P_W(S)\) implies \(w_0\in P_W[w+0+ \lambda(S- w_0)]\) for all \(\lambda> 0\). This paper is concerned with the problem of nonlinear best simultaneous approximation in conditional complete lattice Banach spaces with a strong unit. Some characterization results of the best simultaneous approximation for simultaneous suns and suns have been proved. An example to show that the characterization theorem for convex sets (Theorem 3.1) due to \textit{H. Mohebi} [Numer. Funct. Anal. Optimization 25, No. 7--8, 685--705 (2004; Zbl 1068.41038)] fails is provided and a corrected version of the theorem has also been given in the paper.
