    The paper is a continuation of previous research by the authors. In 2004, they discussed for the first time contradiction in the intuitionistic fuzzy sets [\textit{S. Cubillo} and \textit{E. Castiñeira}, ``Contradiction in the intuitionistic fuzzy sets'', in: Proceedings of the conference IPMU'2004, Perugia, 2180--2186 (2004)]. Let \(X\) be a universe, \(L = \{ (\alpha_1, \alpha_2):\alpha_1, \alpha_2, \alpha_1 + \alpha_2 \in [0, 1]\}\) be a lattice, \(O_L = (0, 1)\), \(1_L = (1, 0)\) and \(N: L \rightarrow L\) be an intuitionistic fuzzy negation, defined so that \(N(0_L) = 1_L\), \(N(1_L) = 0_L\) and for all \(\alpha \in L: N(N(\alpha)) = \alpha\). Let \(\chi^A = (\mu_A, \nu_A)\), \(\chi^B = (\mu_B, \nu_B)\) and \(\chi^A, \chi^B \in L^X\). Then \(\chi^A \leq_L \chi^B\) if for all \(x \in X: \chi^A(x) \leq \chi^B(x)\). The sets \(\chi^A\) and \(\chi^B\) are \textit{contradictory} with respect to \(N\) if \(\chi^A \leq_L N \circ \chi^B\). The sets \(\chi^A\) and \(\chi^B\) are \textit{contradictory} if they are contradictory with respect to some intuitionistic fuzzy negation \(N\). Suitable measures of contradiction between two intuitionistic fuzzy sets are introduced, their properties are studied and well illustrated by examples.
