Many problems in mathematical models describing physical phenomena involve incompletely known parameters. The current paper tackles this issue encountered in the analysis of some elliptic boundary problems. Here the only information is that the coefficients of a differential operator belong to a set which is not too big so that the differential operator preserves the ellipticity property. Using duality principles, two-sided estimators are provided. They quantitatively characterize the set of admissible solutions and yield the accuracy limit. They can be combined with numerical methods in order to obtain stopping criteria for adaptive methods.
