Let \({\mathbf U}\) and \({\mathbf F}\) be Banach spaces. Consider the linear operator differential equation \[ L\dot u= Mu+f\tag{1} \] in which \(L\) is a linear and continuous operator mapping \({\mathbf U}\) into \({\mathbf F}\), \(\ker L\neq \{0\}\) and \(M\) is a linear, closed and densely defined operator mapping \({\mathbf U}\) into \({\mathbf F}\). In [the first author, Russ. Math. Surv. 49, No. 4, 45--74 (1994); translation from Usp. Mat. Nauk 49, No. 4, 47--74 (1994; Zbl 0882.47019)], it is proven that the phase space of (1) is a complete affine manifold modelled on the image of the resolving semigroup of the homogeneous equation under the assumption that \(M\) is a strongly \((L,p)\)-sectorial operator. The goal of this research note is to specify conditions on the perturbation operator \(D\) so that the phase space of the equation \[ L\dot u =Mu+ Du+ f \] has the same property, where \(D\) is a linear and continuous operator mapping \({\mathbf U}\) into \({\mathbf F}\). The authors restrict the problem to the case \(p= 0\), but note situations in which the results are still applicable. The requirements derived for \(D\) are very technical and involve splitting the spaces \({\mathbf U}\) and \({\mathbf F}\) into direct sums using the fact that \(M\) is strongly \((L, 0)\)-sectorial. The authors apply the results obtained to yield an existence and uniqueness theorem for a Cauchy-Dirichlet problem involving a partial differential equation which is a generalization of that studied in [\textit{G. I. Barenblatt}, \textit{Yu. P. Zheltov} and \textit{I. N. Kochina}, PMM, J. Appl. Math. Mech. 24, 1286--1303 (1961); translation from PMM, J. Appl. Math. Mech. 24, 1286--1303 (1960; Zbl 0104.21702)].
