Recently \textit{J. Baxley} and \textit{S. Brown} [Proc. R. Soc. Edinb. Sect. A 88, 219-234 (1981; Zbl 0461.34011)] proved an existence and uniqueness result for the BVP: \(x''=f(t,x,x')\), \(g(x(0),x'(0))=0\), h(x(0),x'(0), \(x(1),x'(1))=0\), under certain assumptions. In this paper, by using properties of the map of \(Z(g)=g^{-1}(0)\) onto the boundary \(\partial \omega\) of a suitable set \(\omega\), under the action of solutions, also using a classical topological result concerning continua and the Kneser- Hukuhara continuum theorem, the authors give an existence result for the given BVP under the weaker assumption that the function f satisfies the Carathéodory condition locally in its domain \(\Omega\).
