    In a bounded domain \(\Omega \subset R^ N\) with boundary \(\partial \Omega\) the large time behaviour of nonnegative solutions of the initial- boundary problems (1) \[ (\beta (v))_ t=\Delta v\quad or\quad (\beta (v))_ t=\Delta v-\gamma (v)\quad in\quad \Omega \times R^+, \] \[ v(t,x)=0\quad on\quad \partial \Omega \times R^+,\quad v(x,0)=v_ 0(x)\quad in\quad \Omega \] is studied. Here \(v_ 0(x)\) is a given nonnegative function, \(\beta\) (s) \((\beta (0)=0)\) and \(\gamma\) (s) are the given functions satisfying some additional conditions. Let y(t) be a solution of \[ (\beta (y))'=-y\quad for\quad t>0,\quad y(0)=s_ 0, \] and \(f_{\mu}(x)\) be a solution of \[ \Delta f=f^{\mu}\quad in\quad \Omega,\quad f=0\quad on\quad \partial \Omega,\quad 0<\mu <1. \] It is proved that for the given conditions on \(\beta\) (s) and \(\gamma\) (s), \(v(x,t)=Ky(t)\) for \(x\in {\bar \Omega}\) and \(t>0\). Here v(t,x) is a solution of (1) and K is constant. If there additionally exists \(\lim_{\epsilon \to 0}(w\beta '(\epsilon w)/\beta '(\epsilon))\) for each \(w>0\), then \[ \| \frac{v(x,t)}{y(t)}- f_{\mu}(x)\| \to 0\quad as\quad t\to \infty. \] If still there exists \(\lim_{\epsilon \to 0}(\epsilon \beta ''(\epsilon)/\sigma (\epsilon)\beta '(\epsilon))\), then \[ (2)\quad \| ((1-\mu)t)^{1/1- \mu} v(x,\beta (t^{-1/1-\mu}))-f_{\mu}(x)\| \to 0\quad as\quad t\to \infty. \] Finally, where \(\lim_{\epsilon \to 0}(w\beta '(\epsilon w)/\sigma (w)\beta '(\epsilon))=1\) uniformly with respect to \(w\in (0,M]\), then we obtain an estimate for the rate of convergence in (2).
