Radial basis functions have turned out in practice to be extremely useful and interesting to analyse for theoretical study. They are approximations that treat all components of the underlying -- possibly high-dimensional -- space equal, and, while this is usually an additional advantage, it is not, when space-time is studied. Therefore the authors of this paper analyse modified radial basis functions, especially products of positive definite radial basis functions, that are amenable to employment in space-time (e.g. physical) applications.
