This paper considers the stability and robustness of closed-loop feedback control systems that include both a pulse-width modulator and a continuous plant in the forward loop. Analysis of such systems can be simplified when the order of the continuous part is reduced. This can be achieved through the design of a feedback compensator that cancels the poles of the plants with zeros of the compensator. However, variations of parameters during operation will result in a robustness problem in which the correct cancellation will not occur. This paper proves the stability of the nominal system under such a compensation scheme. It also considers the robustness of the nominal design and characterizes region of admissible parameter variations.
