Starting from the heat equation written in a variational form on a bounded domain in \(\mathbb{R}^d\), \(2\leq d\leq 3\), the authors using the modified Crank-Nicolson method in time and the standard finite element method in space, construct the fully discrete scheme. Next, they investigate the effect of mesh change with time on the a posteriori error analysis. Interesting findings, both theoretical and numerical, concerning the asymptotic behavior of the estimators are obtained.
