Let \(\ell\) be a prime. Denote by \(Sh_U\) a Shimura variety associated with a reductive group \(G\) over \(\mathbb{Q}\) with level \(U\) (an open compact subgroup of \(G(\mathbb{A} ^{\infty})\)). Let \(E\) be the reflex field and \(\mathcal{H}_{\bar{\mathbb{F}}_{\ell}}(G(\mathbb{A}^{\infty}),U)\) be the Hecke algebra of \(U\)-bi-invariant functions with values in \(\bar{\mathbb{F}}_{\ell}\). The étale cohomology \(H^i(Sh_U, \bar{\mathbb{F}}_{\ell})\) has a rich structure as an \(\mathcal{H}_{\bar{\mathbb{F}}_l}(G(\mathbb{A}^{\infty}),U) \times \mathrm{Gal}(\bar{E}/E)\)-module and conjecturally realizes the mod \(\ell\) version of the global Langlands correspondence. In this article, the author describes in terms of the Langlands correspondence a part of \(H^i_c(Sh_U, \bar{\mathbb{F}}_{\ell})\) on which \(G(\mathbb{Q}_p)\) acts through supercuspidal representations. This follows by an analysis of nearby cycles using Newton stratification to reduce to the basic stratum \(\bar{Sh}^{(0)}_{U^p}\) and then using an analogue result for the Lubin-Tate space, proved by \textit{J. F. Dat} [Duke Math. J. 161, No. 6, 951--1010 (2012; Zbl 1260.11070)].
