The authors describe three approaches, namely, (i) the time variation dynamic rezone method, (ii) the equidistributing mesh dynamic rezone method and (iii) the blended dynamic rezone method, to adaptively define mesh velocities in the numerical solutions of time-dependent partial differential equations in one space dimension. They propose the third method which is based on a blend of mesh directions and velocities chosen to reduce the errors in the space and time discretizations. Burgers' equation is considered as a numerical example.
