Let \(\mathcal{A}\) be an abelian category (presumably without enough projective objects) and let \(Ch(\mathcal{A})\) be the associated category of (unbounded) chain complexes. In general, we would like to have a model structure on \(Ch(\mathcal{A})\) that is good for defining left derived functors. In other words we would like a monoidal model category structure on \(Ch(\mathcal{A})\). In this paper, the author puts a monoidal model category structure on the category of chain complexes of quasi-coherent sheaves over a quasi-compact and semi-separated scheme. He shows, in particular, that in any Grothendieck category \(\mathcal{G}\), any Kaplansky class of objects induces a model structure on \(Ch(\mathcal{G})\).
