The results concerning structure and properties of representations of semidirect group products [\textit{G. Cieciura} and \textit{I. Szczyrba}, J. Math. Phys. 31, 2560-2566 (1990; Zbl 0737.22011)] are generalized for the case of an arbitrary group extension \(1 \to N \to G \to G/N \to 1\) by taking into account the existence of a non-trivial normal subgroup \(N\) in a group \(G\). The importance of the quotient group \(G/N\) in the theory of representations of the above group extension is explicitly demonstrated by a refinement of Clifford's theorem (1937) about induced representations. In the framework of such a setting a specific realization of the representations is constructed and relevant properties of related two-cocycles are investigated.
