The authors justify the global validity of the diffusive expansion for solutions to the rescaled Boltzmann equation in the whole space, for all positive time-values, and appropriate assumptions on the initial condition. They show that the coefficients in the diffusive expansion of the solution can be determined uniquely by the iteration method and the energy method. The authors also deduce the space-time energy estimates on these coefficients. The relevant point is the way they overcome the fact that Poincaré's inequality is not valid in the whole space. To avoid the inconvenience, they consider after the Helmholtz decomposition some appropriate \(L^p\)-\(L^q\)-estimates on the Riesz potential, with the additional requirement that the space dimension be suitable large.
