    Some parallel methods are developed for solving time dependent linear problems in partial differential equations (PDEs), including stiff problems, on multi instructions multi data (MIMD) computers. The method of lines is used and the resulting system of ordinary differential equations is reduced by means of new rational approximations to exponential and hyperbolic cosine functions. By Strang-like splitting techniques second-order \(L\)-stabe locally one-dimensional (LOD) methods are obtained. Numerical examples are given.
