    This article deals with the following (implicit) iterative scheme: \[ x_{n+1} = \alpha_nx_n + (1 - \alpha_n)S_n(x_{n+1}), \qquad n = 1,2,\dots, \] (\(S_n = n^{-1} (I + T + \ldots + T^{n-1})\)), where \(T : C \to C\) is a continuous affine mapping of a nonempty bounded closed convex subset \(C\) of a normed linear or Banach space \(E\) into itself, \(0 < \alpha_n \leq 1\), \(\sum_{n=1}^\infty (1 - \alpha_n) = \infty\). Some results about the strong and weak convergence of the iterations \((x_n)\) are given. In particular, the iterations \((x_n)\) converge strongly to a fixed point of \(T\), if \(T\) is semicompact and either (a) \(T\) is quasi-nonexpansive or (b) \(T\) is asymptotically quasi-nonexpansive and \(\sum_{n=1}^\infty (1 - \alpha_n) / n < \infty\). (A mapping \(T : C \to C\) is called semi-compact if, for any \((x_n)\) in \(C\) with \(\| x_n - Tx_n\| \to 0\), there exists a convergent subsequence \((x_{n_i})\); it is called quasi-nonexpansive if \(\| Tx - p\| \leq \| x - p\| \) for all \(x \in C\) and \(p \in \text{Fix} \, T\); it is called asymptotically quasi-nonexpansive if \(\| T^nx - p\| \leq (1 + u_n)\| x - p\| \) for all \(x \in C\) and \(p \in \text{Fix} \, T\) with \(u_n \to 0\).) If the space \(E\) satisfies Opial's property, then the iterations \((x_n)\) converge weakly to a fixed point of \(T\), if either (a) \(T\) is quasi-nonexpansive or (b) \(T\) is asymptotically quasi-nonexpansive and \(\sum_{n=1}^\infty (1 - \alpha_n) / n < \infty\).
