Surjective maps \(T: A\to B\) between uniform algebras (or, between their subsets containing \(A^{-1}\) and \(B^{-1}\) correspondingly) such that for some positive numbers \(s,t\) and a non-zero complex number \(\alpha\) the equality \(\|(Tf)^s(Tg)^t-\alpha\|=\|f^sg^t-\alpha\|\) holds for all \(f,g\in A\), are described completely by \textit{R. Shindo} [Mediterr. J. Math. 8, No. 1, 81--95 (2011; Zbl 1222.46039)]. The present authors prove corresponding results for Banach function algebras under the above, and under the more general condition \(R_\pi((Tf)^s(Tg)^t-\alpha)\cap R_\pi(f^sg^t-\alpha)\neq\emptyset\), where \(R_\pi(f)\) is the peripheral range of \(f\). A version for pairs of surjections, \(T\) and \(T'\), between Banach function algebras satisfying the condition \(\|(Tf)^s(T'g)^t-\alpha\|_\infty=\|f^sg^t-\alpha\|_\infty\) is given, too.
