In this paper the author studies point symmetry algebras of general analytic second order ordinary differential equations (ODEs) of the form \(F(x,y,y',y'')=0\). The classification of such a problem of ODEs of the form \(y''=F(x,y,y')\) has been known. The main result of the paper is as follows: The point symmetry algebra can have all possible dimensions from \(0\) to \(8\) except \(7\). For comparison, recall that in the category of the form \(y''=F(x,y,y')\), the dimensions can only have \(0,1,2,3\) and \(8\).
