Subject of this paper is the covariant Hamiltonian formalism for multiple integral variational problems on general fibre bundles. The authors sketch an approach, which contains elements of the multisymmetric theory by \textit{I. Kijowskij} and \textit{W. Tulczyjew} [`A symplectic framework for field theories' (Lect. Notes Phys. 107) (1979; Zbl 0439.58002)] (in the formulation of the GIMMSY project) and the polysymplectic theory by the reviewer [Differential geometric methods in theoretical physics, Proc. 15th Int. Conf., DGM, Clausthal/FRG 1986, 14-27 (1987; Zbl 0729.58027)]. The case of gauge fields is especially emphasized.
