The small deviation theory in probability deals with upper bounds for the probability that a random variable is small in absolute value or belongs to a small ball. The authors present a novel application of a small deviations inequality to a problem related to the diameters of random sections of high dimensional convex bodies. The results imply that the correct upper bound for random sections of a convex bodies appears sometimes in much higher dimensions than those for which the lower bound is available.
