The main problem treated is that of the existence for a function F: \(X\times X\to [0,1]\) of a point \(x\in X\) such that F(x,x)\(\geq F(x,y)\) for every y in x. Such an x is called fixed point of the fuzzy mapping F. This problem is of interest in the theory of n-person games [cf. the reviewer, Solution concepts for n-person fuzzy games in Advances in Fuzzy Set Theory and Applications, M. M. Gupta et al. (eds.) (1979; Zbl 0434.94026)] and in other fields. The results in the reviewed work are of basic importance in the domain of the fixed points for fuzzy mappings not only because they are more general than some results obtained by \textit{S. Heilpern} [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 83, 566-569 (1981; Zbl 0486.54006)] and the reviewer [Fuzzy Sets Syst. 7, 191-207 (1982; Zbl 0473.90087)] but also because the way of proving these results and the topological context in which they are placed open the way for new developments.
