The author reconsiders two well-known theorems in the representation theory of locally compact abelian groups, namely the Plancherel theorem and Bochner's theorem. The proofs of these theorems were given by several mathematicians during the 1940's but the one given by Prof. Yosida is the most natural one according to the author. However the proof given by Yosida was not very popular in the mathematical circles as it contained some gaps. The author in this paper fills up these gaps and makes the proof given by Yosida more readable.
