The paper contains an elegant solution of Problem I.10 (the part corresponding to Problem I.5) in \textit{G. Grätzer}'s, General Lattice Theory (1978; Zbl 0436.06001). The problem asks for a characterization of those lattice varieties V which are closed under isomorphism of lattices of convex sublattices i.e. such that if \(L\in V\) and CSub(L)\(\cong CSub(L_ 1)\), then \(L_ 1\in V\). The author proves that these are exactly the self dual varieties of lattices and the proof is based on two observations: (i) for any lattices L and \(L_ 1\), CSub(L)\(\cong CSub(L_ 1)\) iff Int(L)\(\cong Int(L_ 1)\), where Int(P) is the lattice of all intervals of a lattice P, and (ii) any isomorphism of Int(L) onto \(Int(L_ 1)\) induces an embedding of each finitely generated sublattice of L into \(L^*_ 1\times L_ 1\), where \(L^*_ 1\) is the lattice dual to \(L_ 1\).
