Let G be a finite group, \(\pi\) (G) denotes the set of prime factors of the order of G, \(\tau\) (G) the set of prime factors of indices of maximal subgroups of G and S(G) the largest solvable normal subgroup of G. G is said to be a \(\tau_ n\)-group if \(| \tau (G)| =n\). In this paper the following theorems are proved: Theorem 1. Let G be a finite non- solvable \(\tau_ 2\)-group. Then \(\pi (G)=\{2,3,7\}\) and G/S(G)\(\cong PSL(2,7)\). Theorem 2. A finite group G which has a p-complement for every \(p\in \tau (G)\) is either solvable or G/S(G)\(\cong\) PSL(2,7). The proofs of these theorems use the classification of the finite simple groups.
