The author study the Hunter-Saxton equation from the Lie symmetry point of view. The direct method is used to find the conservation laws and potential systems corresponding to these conservation laws are given. The point symmetries for each potential symmetry are obtained. A symmetry-based method is also used to find inverse potential systems arising from Lie point symmetries. These inverse potential systems may help in further analysis of the HS equation.
