The Lagrange interpolation problem in the two-dimensional real plane is studied here. A new proof of the Cayley-Bacharach theorem [see \textit{J. G. Semple} and \textit{L. Roth}, Introduction to algebraic geometry. Oxford: Clarendon Press (1949; Zbl 0041.27903)] is given here. A general method of constructing a properly posed set of nodes for bivariate Lagrange interpolation is given. This provides a generalization of some earlier results [see for example, \textit{X. Z. Liang} et al. [He, Tian-Xiao (ed.) et al., Analysis, combinatorics and computing. Proceedings of the international symposium, ISACC 2000, dedicated to L. C. Hsu on the occasion of his 80th birthday, Dalian, China, 2000. Hauppauage, NY: Nova Science Publishers, 295--304 (2002; Zbl 1081.41504)].
