Fix a natural number \(n\). The partition algebra \(P\) is a \(\mathbb{Q}(v)\)-algebra arising from the \(n\)-site transfer matrices of certain lattice models in statistical mechanics. It has a natural \(\mathbb{Z}[v]\)-form \(P_{\mathbb{Z}[v]}\), and if \(k\) is a \(\mathbb{Z}[v]\)-algebra let \(P_k\) be the algebra obtained by base change to \(k\). In the present paper the authors show that if \(k\) is a field of positive characteristic, and if \(v\) is not taken into the prime subfield of \(k\), then \(P_k\) is Morita equivalent to a direct product of symmetric group algebras. More precisely, let \(R\) be the ring obtained from \(\mathbb{Z}[v]\) by inverting the elements \(v,v-1,\ldots,v-2n+1\) and let \(RS_i\) be the group algebra of the symmetric group \(S_i\); then \(P_R\) is Morita equivalent to \(\prod_{i=0}^n RS_i\).
