This author gives an analysis of a finite element method for the biharmonic equation on convex planar domains. The basis functions are piecewise linear. He defines a generalized Laplacian for the finite-element approximants, and he shows the \(\Gamma\)-convergence of a functional based on the square of this generalized Laplacian.
