The author introduces so-called near \(h\)-Bernstein basis and near \(h\)-Bézier curves closely related to the \(h\)-Bernstein basis and \(h\)-Bézier curves -- a generalisation of the classical Bernstein basis and Bézier curves. The classical Bernstein basis is defined by the degree and the domain of parameterisation. The \(h\)-Bernstein basis as well as the near \(h\)-Bernstein basis is defined by the degree, the domain of parameterisation and a parameter \(h\). When \(h=0\), the \(h\)-Bernstein basis as well as the near \(h\)-Bernstein basis is the classical Bernstein basis. Unlike the \(h\)-Bernstein basis where the parameter \(h\) is usually nonnegative, the parameter \(h\) in the near \(h\)-Bernstein basis can be any real number. Important properties of the near \(h\)-Bernstein basis and near \(h\)-Bézier curves are derived and presented in this paper, e.g. affine invariance, endpoint interpolation, convex hull, variation diminishing, degree elevation, reproduction of lines, recursive evaluation algorithms, derivatives and subdivision. A comparison with properties of the classical Bernstein basis and Bézier curves is given, too. The near \(h\)-Bézier curves can be used in approximation theory and computer-aided geometric design.
