It is shown that the quantum ``manifest covariance'' condition [\textit{D. G. Currie}, \textit{T. F. Jordan} and \textit{E. C. G. Sudarshan}, Rev. Mod. Phys. 35, 350-375 (1963)] is compatible with a unique expression for the position operator of Newton and Wigner. Thus, the position operator is uniquely determined in quantum systems satisfying the manifest covariance condition.
