The asymptotic stability of the viscous shock wave (VSW) for 1D compressible isentropic Navier-Stokes equations is studied, when the spatial coordinate is positive. Initial and boundary conditions are imposed (the last for \(x=0, x=\infty\)). The viscosity is a negative power of the density. The new element is the study of the boundary effect on the asymptotic convergence of the solution towards a shift of the VSW, for large time values. A VSW on \(\mathbf{R}\) exists, which connects two states. The Rankine-Hugoniot condition and Lax entropy relation must be verified. The amount of shift of the asymptotic VSW is calculated. With some additional assumption, the existence of a unique VSW, up to a shift, is proved. The VSW must be far enough from the boundary and only small enough perturbations are considered. The problem is reformulated in terms of the anti-derivatives of the deviation functions from the VSW. Very interesting a priori energy estimates are proved in the last part, used for the proof of the main theorem. Some auxiliary results, proved in [\textit{A. Matsumura} and \textit{Y. Wang}, Methods Appl. Anal. 17, No. 3, 279--290 (2010; Zbl 1242.76059)] and the Sobolev inequalities are also used.
