The authors study the hyperspace \(H\) of nonempty closed subsets of a metric space \(X\) with the Hausdorff metric. They provide a sufficient condition on \(X\) in order that each component of \(H\) is a uniform AR. In case of a totally bounded metric space \(X\), a necessary and sufficient condition is given for \(H\) to be a uniform ANR. Related problems are also considered.
