Let C be a nonsingular elliptic curve over the complex numbers, let E be a normed bundle over C and \(\pi\) : \({\mathbb{P}}(E)\to C\) the corresponding projective bundle. The author gives necessary and sufficient conditions for a divisor \(D\sim M+\pi^*B\) on \({\mathbb{P}}(E)\) to be very ample, where M is the tautological divisor and \(B\in Pic(C)\). As application, he improves the result of \textit{A. Lanteri} and \textit{M. Palleschi} [Atti Accad. Naz. Lincei, VIII. Ser. Rend., Cl. Sci. Fis. Mat. Nat. 68, 407-415 (1980; Zbl 0471.14017)] concerning the fact that a nonsingular k- dimensional projective variety which can be covered by a one-dimensional family of (k-1)-planes with base an elliptic curve C has degree \(d\geq 2k+1\).
