The authors investigate the interaction of multiple parallel cracks in transversely isotropic piezoelectric ceramics, under plane strain conditions, using the so-called ``pseudo-traction-electric displacement'' method. The role of the electric displacement loading on the interaction between cracks is put in evidence. A detailed comparison is carried out between the results for combined mechanical-electric loading and those for purely mechanical loading. It is shown that, unlike the single crack problem, the stress intensity factors and the energy release rates may be significantly affected by the electric displacement loading. The effect on other fracture parameters is also discussed. Two numerical examples for PZT-4 ceramic material are considered, including two cracks of equal length and of different lengths.
