This paper advocates that the study of Finsler spaces be taken to a deeper level than usual. The reason for this examination is that when the Hausdorff measure is used in the definition of volume, then totally geodesic manifolds are not necessarily minimal. With another definition of volume by way of a Crofton formula, it is proved that the Holmes-Thompson measure is more suitable for deriving such results since totally geodesic hypersurfaces are minimally applied.
