For Sturm-Liouville operators on the half line in the limit point case at \(\infty\) the dependence of their spectral types on the boundary conditions at \(O\) and local perturbations of potential is investigated. The pure point, singular continuous and absolutely continuous parts of the spectrum are studied. The subdivision of the subspace of absolute continuity is also considered. The variation of boundary condition is identified with a rank one perturbation \(A_\alpha= A+ \alpha B\), interpreted as a form sum, where \(\alpha\in \mathbb{R}\cup \{\infty\}\), \(A\) is the selfadjoint operator corresponding to the Neumann boundary condition, \(Bu= u(0)\delta(x)\). The main result: the occurrence of any specific spectral type for a set of positive measures of boundary conditions is invariant under local perturbations of potential. Analogous propositions hold for Jacobi matrices on the discrete half line. Some examples are given.
