Let \(X\) be a complex smooth irreducible projective curve. A cohomological criterion for a vector bundle to be semistable and a construction of moduli spaces involving this criterion was given in [\textit{G. Faltings}, J. Algebr. Geom. 2, No. 3, 507--568 (1993; Zbl 0790.14019)]. Faltings' criterion for semistability was generalized to parabolic vector bundles by \textit{I. Biswas} [C. R., Math., Acad. Sci. Paris 345, No. 6, 325--328 (2007; Zbl 1119.14032)], \textit{I. Biswas} and \textit{G. Hein} [Manuscr. Math. 126, No. 2, 247--253 (2008; Zbl 1162.14021)] and \textit{A. J. Parameswaran} [J. Ramanujan Math. Soc. 25, No. 3, 233--251 (2010; Zbl 1223.14032)]. In the present article, the authors give a new construction of coarse moduli \(M(n,d)\) for parabolic vector bundles of rank \(r\) and degree \(d\) and with fixed parabolic type at \(p_i,\) \(i=1,\dots, \ell\) on \(X\), \(g(X)\geq 2\), using the generalized criterion. \(M(n,d)\) is a normal projective variety; its dimension is also computed. The construction is done by using the ``Second main lemma'': it deals with families of semistable parabolic vector bundles parametrized by smooth projective curves and states when \(\mathrm{gr} F_{s\ast}\) does not depend on a choice of a base curve \(S\). Here \(F_{s\ast} \) is a bundle in a family corresponding to the point \(s\in S\). The general line of the construction is formation of a quotient of a certain quasiprojective variety by an appropriate algebraic group.
