[The articles of this volume will not be indexed individually.] This book concerning nonstandard analysis and its applications presents an overview of the work in nonstandard analysis of the school of Georges Reeb and his pupils. To make the book accessible to the general reader the editors prepared a very readable tutorial concerning the basic principles of the theory of infinitesimals. The tutorial is followed by 10 essays on the applications of nonstandard analysis entitled: 2. Complex analysis, by A. Fruchard; 3. The vibrating string, by Pierre Delfini and Claude Lobry; 4. Random walks and stochastic differential equations, by Eric Benoît; 5. Infinitesimal algebra and geometry, by Michel Goze; 6. General topology, by Tewfik Sari; 7. Neutrices, external numbers, and external calculus, by Fouad Koudjeti and Imme van den Berg; 8. An external probability order theorem with applications by I. P. van den Berg; 9. Integration over finite sets, by Pierre Cartier and Yvette Perrin; 10. Ducks and rivers: three existence results, by Francine Diener and Marc Diener, 11. Teaching with infinitesimals, by André Deledicq. This list shows that the book has a lot to offer and touches upon a great number of different areas in mathematics. In addition to a foreward by the Editors the book contains also an interesting foreword by Robert Lutz one of the pioneers of the Reeb school. All in all the book is warmly recommended to every mathematician who wants to learn more about nonstandard analysis.
