The subject of this paper is a problem introduced by \textit{N.-J. Huang, M.-R. Bai, Y. J. Cho}, and \textit{S. M. Kang} [Comput. Math. Appl. 40, 205--215 (2000; Zbl 0960.47036)] and the corresponding algorithm to approximate its solution. The iterative method is based on a fixed point result. It incorporates step size controls that enable application to problems where set-valued mappings do not always map to nonempty closed bounded sets. This is the main advance to the algorithm presented in the paper cited above. The convergence of the new algorithm is demonstrated. Numerical results are not yet available.
