The authors study the functional equation \(u(x+h,y+h)+u(x,y)=u(x+h,y)+u(x,y+h)\), which arises in connection with the wave equation. For a class \(V\)-Lip\({}_{loc}(G)\) of solutions, necessary and sufficient conditions under which any relatively closed set F, \(F\subset G\subset R^ 2\) (G is open) is removable are given in terms of the Lebesgue measure of projections of certain two subsets of G. See also \textit{M. Dont} [Acta Univ. Carol., Math. Phys. 14, No.2, 23-30 (1974; Zbl 0285.35041)].
