Let \(R\) be a nonzero ideal of the free Lie algebra \(L\) of rank \(n \geq 2\) over a field of characteristic zero. Under some natural conditions on \(R\) the authors of the paper under review establish that the algebra \(L/R\) has wild automorphisms, i.e. automorphisms which are not induced by automorphisms of \(L\). In particular, the class of algebras \(L/R\) covered by this result contains the free polynilpotent Lie algebras and all nonabelian relatively free algebras in varieties of nilpotent Lie algebras. The existence of wild automorphisms for these algebras has been established respectively by \textit{A. I. Papistas} [Commun. Algebra 21, 4391-4395 (1993; Zbl 0787.17007)] and \textit{V. Drensky} and \textit{C. K. Gupta} [Can. J. Math. 42, 259-279 (1990; Zbl 0711.17010)] using different techniques. The method used in the paper under review is quite promising and is based on free differential calculus and some generalization of the determinant in the sense of Dieudonné.
