The Callias index theorem is generalized from Euclidean case to certain spin manifolds: Let M be an odd dimensional Riemannian spin manifold with a warped end \(W=(\epsilon;\infty)x_ fN\), \(f\in C^{\infty}(\epsilon;\infty)\), \(f>0\) and \(f(r)\to \infty\) if \(r\to \infty\); let \(S=\Sigma \otimes V\) be the spinor-type bundle over M obtained by twisting the spinor bundle \(\Sigma\) on M with a trivial Hermitian bundle V; if \(A\in C^{\infty}(M;End(V))\) is a skew-Hermitian endomorphism such that \(A|_ W\) is independent of the radial direction r, for \(r\geq R\), \(R\in (\epsilon;\infty)\), and \(-A^ 2\) is positive at infinity, then the perturbed Dirac operator \(D+A\), where D is the Dirac operator on S, is a Fredholm operator and \(L^ 2- index(D+A)=\int_{N}\hat A(N)\wedge ch(VR)_+.\) (Here \(\hat A(N)\) stands for the total \(\hat A-\)class of N, \((VR)_+\) is the bundle over \(\{\) \(R\}\) \(\times N\), given by \((VR)_+=\{v\in VR\equiv V|_{\{R\}\times N}:\) 1/\(\sqrt{-1}(-A^ 2)^{-1/2}Av=v\}\), and \(ch(VR)_+\) is the Chern character of \((VR)_+\).
