The present paper gives a detailed description of scientific activity of Pasquale del Pezzo (1859--1936) as well as his private life and political activity. His scientific production was mostly devoted to projective algebraic geometry in the framework of the Italian school founded by Luigi Cremona. It should be noted that del Pezzo's paper from 1886 played a fundamental role in the development of the school of projective differential geometry in Italy in the first half of the 20th century.
