The authors apply the techniques of Koszul cohomology [see \textit{M. L. Green}, J. Differ. Geom. 19, 125-171 (1984; 559.14008)] to deduce the projective normality of some scrolls. For example, they prove that the scroll defined by a very ample rank \(r\) vector bundle \(E\) over a smooth surface \(S\) embedded by the tautological line bundle \(L\) is projectively normal if the following conditions are satisfied: (1) \(h^i(S, S^j(E)\otimes {\mathcal O}_S(-C)) = 0\), \(i = 1,2\), \(j \geq 0\), (2) \(h^0(S,C+\det E+K_S) \leq h^0(E)-r-2,\) (3) \(\mu_-(E|C) > 2g\). Here \(C\) is a smooth curve of genus \(g\) on \(S\) and \(\mu_-\) is the minimal slope of a quotient of a vector bundle over a curve. The authors give several examples where the theorem applies.
