    The author points out that in finite difference approximation on a one dimensional nonuniform mesh the nonuniform mesh may be regarded as a mapping of a uniform mesh by a change of independent variable. The error is then of higher order in the uniform mesh length allowing the use of a deferred approach to the limit.
