Let \(G\) be a Lie group and \(M\) a homogeneous space of \(G\) with a \(G\)- invariant ordering. Let \(P\) be the set of elements in \(M\) which are greater or equal to a fixed base point \(x_0 \in M\). If \(M\) carries a quasi-invariant measure one has a regular representation \(\pi_M\) of the group algebra \(L^1 (G)\) on the space \(L^2 (M)\). The Wiener-Hopf algebra \({\mathcal W}_P\) of \(P\) is the \(C^*\)-algebra generated by all compressions of the operators \(\pi_M (f)\) to the subspace \(L^2 (P)\). It is shown that the Wiener-Hopf algebra is a homomorphic image of a groupoid \(C^*\)-algebra. To obtain this groupoid \(C^*\)-algebra one constructs an ordered compactification of \(M\) using the Vietoris topology on the set of compact subsets of the one-point compactification of \(M\). The regularity of this compactification allows to show that the Wiener- Hopf algebra always contains the compact operators on \(L^2 (P)\).
