This paper deals with the one-dimensional Maxwell system in frequency space. The equations are solved with a fourth order accurate compact implicit method on a staggered grid. A global regularization based on a Padé approximation yields a lower total error compared with local regularization based Hermite splines. The schemes considered in this paper can be implemented for multidimensional problems both in the frequency and time domains.
